Health care reform update
As health care costs rise, putting pressure on working families, the middle class and small businesses, CIGNA is adamant that doing nothing is the costliest course of action. No individual should be excluded due to age or pre-existing condition. While the nation’s attempts at universal health care have failed before, we feel the current community effort to reduce the 47 million uninsured holds promise. The new proposed solutions are gathering various stakeholder perspectives to find common ground while addressing full coverage, health care cost reduction and health care quality improvement.

The current situation undermines CIGNA’s competitiveness in the global marketplace and threatens the nation’s fiscal foundation as well as the public safety net at a time when we can least afford it.

As a result, the CIGNA comprehensive reform proposal includes:
Building on the current employer-based system
Fixing the health care safety net, guaranteeing coverage for everyone, including those with pre-existing conditions
Providing a helping hand to make coverage affordable for the economically challenged
Requiring that everyone participate in the system
